MCPD is hardly the best approach to learning development, unless its in a course titled "Our way. How to do stuff. Badly"...

the best mix remains procedural, (c/c++), Object Oriented , (c++/java), and scripting, (perl, coldfusion, etc)...

you will also want to get a grip on Object Oriented Analysis and Design, (which you'll encounter in most corporate software and EDI).

once you have a solid grounding, you will pick up .net like it was a nasty rash...

I said MCPD purely from a CV perspective.

Damn these people in the coastal regions. If you wanna do IT come inland. 90% of the worthwhile training institutes is located either in DBN, CPT, PTA and JHB.

See KK....location info on the forum is not to be trusted.

Tolklein: give VZap a call. Very very good. I promise you you will have a ball while you are at it. http://www.vzap.co.za They make you write a 5 questiong aptitude test before you are allowed to enroll as they do have an international standard they are upholding. Also you will only be able to do Java with them but what they do is not teach you a language. They teach you the concepts and how to apply them effectively. All of their tutors do freelance work as part of their contracts so they are actively developing not just sitting around trying to look smart. They have an option to do part time courses which takes about 10 months. The course you would be looking for is devided up into 5 parts where part 1 is purely theoretical and part 5 is a project for which you have 4 weeks. If you do the course part time then you will be writing exams once every two weeks. I have to note that thy do have a rather high standard. In our group about 60 people enrolled after passing the aptitude tests. At the end there were only about 12 of us left doing the final project. If you are interested they also do job placement once you have finished the final project as they use your final project as a kind of portfolio for you.

++ did SAP through them and a really interesting breakout session they arranged with a pure C developer on programming in the financial sector... although that appears to have been a once-off...

their OOAD course is also pretty solid... :)

They did stuff like that with us too. Can't say anything bad about them at all. I actually looking to get the cash together to do the SAP course.

I was there in 2002. Just phone them and get the info. They never really gave credit to their website to tell the truth.
