Daughter was in a lot of pain yesterday - seems her anxiety caused another ulcer. So we went to the doctor. Only she was allowed in after they took her temp. I had to stay outside. She was prescribed some antidepressant that was supposed to help with the anxiety. By last night her pupils were unresponsive and dillated, she was shivering and shaking, in a huge amount of pain. So I rushed her to emergency. Seems the meds actually heightens the anxiety in the first few days! Are doctors stupid ????!!!! Yesterday cost 2k and a terrible experience. She is now feeling drugged and disoriented so I just sent her back to bed. Hopefully the drugs work out of her system soon.
WOW... hope she is OK... anxiety is not a thing to play around with... As Prime said, maybe "softer" meds to begin with should have been prescribed... or something for anxiety and not depression. I myself am on anti-anxiety meds but only drink it when at work or when needed (and no it's not urbanol, something stronger), started when I got to the end of my thesis writing and the anxiety got too much...

Maybe talk about what is causing the anxiety, I know it is a stressful time at the moment, for all, but trying to get to the root cause could help in trying to ease her anxiety... extroverts are struggling more than the introverts...

Big huggs and good luck!!
Good luck on the hunt for one. I got very lucky finding a good therapist second time round. I can ask friends for a recommdendation on a Pyschiatrist. Two of my close friends have serious chronic mental health conditions and they both seem very happy with theirs.

I do agree with talking. It does help to ease some of the tension.

Prime wrote: 16 Apr 2020, 14:22 So that in itself is complicated (and I'm not a doctor so ask a doctor about this), but stomach ulcers can also be caused by HP Pylori Bacteria and I'm told it's treatable with the right antibiotic. So if of course, they've done this or ruled it out, then fine, but otherwise ask?

Actually you want a young doctor who has trained at Baragwanath. They seem to see all the stuff and know their ****.
I will investigate that - thanks. Never even thought of that.

I still have trouble with the idea that someone can stay the course and graduate from university without being smart. Next thing you'll be telling me that you don't have to be smart to do maths. :P

I teach financial managers and charted accountants maths formulas on Excel - and I am not smart.

I never said she wasn't bright. Smart and bright are not the same thing. No doubt she is a brilliant doctor - just not very good at getting information out of patients - or at least some of them.

Don't you have at least a passing familiarity with other Microsoft products?

Her bedside manner is lacking, in other words. Gosh...that reminds me of the days when doctors still did house calls.

:(

I am feeling...shall we say, disappointed. My boss emailed me to tell me to fill a leave form as I shall be working on Mondays and Thursdays only from May, subject to review. I realise that there are many people much worse off than I am, and didn't think this was worth taking to Arkham Asylum...it feels like when I had to take a month's forced leave last year after the people concerned delivered shoddy work on two projects...uncertainty about whether I shall have work to do from May.

There has been no sign of the email about UIF that we were told we would be receiving during the first week of the lockdown. :-(

This is really difficult for so many people. Sorry that you have to go through this. The upside is that you will still have some work in May. Perhaps things will change. It is possible that a company hasn't heard of their reputation and hires them. We can hope for that.

That it is. Oh, I fully intend to read through tender advertisements on the days that I am not officially working - for the sake of my sanity if nothing else!

Perhaps once the lockdown is lifted I'll ask my brother whether there is anything he would like me to type up for him.

I guess that depends on how well different government departments communicate with each other. [I work in the public sector part of the company - private sector [Midas Autopart] is still okay.
