So it's been a LONG time. How have your lives changed?

Post by DAE_JA_VOO »

The way my life has changed since my days on the forum is absolutely unreal. I'm assuming the same is true for many of you guys and gals.

Give us an update!

Holy mackerel! I can't even!

So, been here since the early 2000's, was always my favourite place.

Live in Australia now with my wife and two kids. In touch with quite a few people from here still... :)

Haha, you're too kind!

Well yeah, I quit modding, quit my IT job, became a photographer, lived my dream until just the other day when every single photography job I had lined up for the next 6 months got cancelled, including gigs in Boston and Seattle. So I'm trying to figure that out.

Ended up meeting a girl who I married, was with for 8 years, and that ended in divorce a year ago actually. So that's been a bit of a rollercoaster too.

Outside of that, I remember being a f*cking annoying religious zealot when I was still a member here, and that's all a thing of the past too, thank goodness. Still a christian, but not such an a**hole of a christian.

Outside of that, I'm a really, really happy dude. Still live in PTA though. That probably needs to change. Haha.

Ok, your turn!

Bro! It's been sooooo long!

Wow, didn't know you got divorced, that's hectic.

Have followed your photography since you started and have always been amazed.

So surreal and awesome to catch up on the old forum again, this is crazy...

Sorry about the divorce but glad you are happy now. And yes - your photography is awesome. Seen you talk at the Camera expo too.
I think we were all annoying Christian's at some stage - I know I was. But by the time I had joined here - that was all over. Won't go into what I blieve - most think it is just weird.

Well my kids are all grown up. Youngest turned 18 in Jan and is in Matric. Daughter (that many of you had/still have a crush on) is studying Criminology. She has a really nice boyfriend (both are still in Esports - he is with Big 5 and she is with Aperture Gaming FE). My eldest is busy with his Masters in Physics - so wondering what is going to happen there. He is a tutor at the varsity too.

Still have my own business. Moved training online this week and making training videos for clients - so all good. Development work has had to take a backseat for a while as videos take a helluva long time to get right. I am the one that gets to go out to the shops - so I will not go insane. Still addicted to the usual stuff - just added a few more things to that list.

And that is that.

Whose next ?

I met a girl in 2015/2016 who at least two people here know, and fell in love with her. Did long distance for 6 months and then things fell apart. I won't say too much more about it.

2017 was a year of changes. it started with realising I was suffering from depression and needed to get help; so I found a really good therapist. Which in turn led to getting diagnosed with Generalised Anxiety Disorder. That was a bit of lightbulb moment in my life. For the first time I actually understood what was going on beneath the surface. Unfortunately it probably also destroyed a handful of friendships and relationships before. Had a girlfriend until she decided to emigrate "back to Taiwan in three weeks." :/

Applied for an Australian permanent residency visa which I got. Quit my job of 5 years to join another startup and stayed there for 2 years while I basically packed up my life.

Finally emigrated end of July last year. Found a job in 3 weeks which was a relief. Now living in Melbourne building avionics for helicopters.

Other things I've done in the last 6 years: Solar car racing across South Africa and Australia multiple times. Won Robowars twice in SA, and was a finalist on two other occasions.

Glad you mentioned the Robowars - because I was if you didn't. Really enjoyed watching you play. Glad you are happy there. Pity about the ladies but you will find someone special soon. Well, after this crisis.

Interesting, not much has changed for me.

Still love living in the rural Freestate, still single, did have a torrid affair with a computer once, only lasted 4 years, before accidentally being electrocuted, insurance investigated and couldnt find any foul play. I suspect they are onto me.

While I would have liked to have taken the creating writing further, my career got in the way. I have been working from home as a Freelance and contract 3D artist, for various private projects as well as a UK company. Got published on the Steam gaming platform, and worked on various other steam DLC Projects.

I am thinking about starting another torrid affair, but it is really no point in get emotionally attached to technology, they are too old and obsolete by the time you get to know them well.

Don't know when we all left so...

Met hubby on PCFormat Forum, got married in April 2015. We are really hoping for the lockdown to end when it does as we have booked and paid for our anniversary holiday during the same time that our actual honeymoon was on 5 years ago... really need that holiday in the bushveld...

Left the Agricultural Research Council (actually got kicked out, was getting very racially political) in June 2017. Obtained M.Sc. Agrometeorology in June 2018. Started working as a Senior Data Quality Controller in November 2018. Working with climate returns/data from 1860 onwards.

Still living in the same place, no kids yet (need specialist help) but still have the 2 cats...

Hubby still works for the same place... still big in the gaming thus I have had to limit his gaming time...

That's us in a nutshell...
