Re: Latest Purchases Thread
A hairbrush. The one I brought with was not suitable to get knots out of hair :p Took me over an hour to get the knots out after that wind yesterday. How people put up with it is beyond me.

As much as I hate to admit it, I do like this song.Tribble wrote:Skrillex - Bangarang
99% of dubstep is annoying noise, but this is a fun song.

It is awesome. And there is a lot of good dubstep out there - you just have to look for it.

Oh come on - you have to recognise genius, even if you don't understand it.
Re: Latest Purchases Thread
i wouldnt call it genius ..... and i cant type in what i really would call it cos that would definitely be censored on here ..... either way i checked that track you linked as well as that bangarang stuff and it just sounds like random noise to my earsTribble wrote:Oh come on - you have to recognise genius, even if you don't understand it.
so its safe to say that i dont recognize it as genius

Well I do know not everybody likes it. Can't blame you - I don't like Country.

Re: Latest Purchases Thread
i would rather take a hammer to my audio system than subject it to country musicI don't like Country
and at the amounts i have spent on said audio system theres 5 chances of me having a hammer anywhere near it ergo the same chances of me playing country music on it ... those chances in no particular order are :
1) a fat chance
2) a slim chance
3) a dogs chance
4) no chance at all
5) a snowflakes chance of surviving a trip through the fires of hell
then again music is a very subjective thing and everyone has their own preference so dont take me too seriously ie do not bother to lose sleep over my preferences

@Naughty - believe me - I won't. For interest sake - what else won't you play on it?
Oh - and I have a nice big hammer should you ever need it.

Re: Latest Purchases Thread
i listen to many genre's of music .... almost anything actually - but nowadays mostly smooth Jazz (as opposed to Jazz) and i definitely do not go out of my way for trance or metal and as stated above i avoid country as well and i am not a huge fan of hardcore rap - but besides for that anything goes. Oh before i forget add the dubstep to things that im going to avoid .... definitelyTribble wrote:@Naughty - believe me - I won't. For interest sake - what else won't you play on it?

thanks for the offer of the hammer but would you really have me take a hammer to these speakers
or an amp that has parts inside it that look like this
this thing was built like a tank - it will probably break your hammer hence why i dont want to borrow it ..... observe
this is a stereo two channel amp only and it weighs around 25 kilo's so watch out if it falls onto your foot

Re: Latest Purchases Thread
Oh those are beautiful - I shall keep my hammer well hidden. So you like Jazz.. my dad was a jazz musician in his day - a trombone player in a band in Jburg. I don't mind Jazz - just don't like the depressing stuff. The Blues also gets me down but I can listen to the greats. Other than that - if it is good - I will listen (sigh even the odd country song). I was repressed as a child - forced to listen to tribute cassettes and ABBA. Hubby and Mom think I am going through a mid-life crisis because of the music I listen to today - neither of them approves There are days where the louder - the better applies.
What amp is that btw? (forgive me if you told me - I am not good at concentrating)

Re: Latest Purchases Thread
i have a denon PMA2000AE stereo amplifier and a Denon DCD2000AE CD player and those are Dali Ikon 7 speakers these are also connected to the AV receiver via pre-outs so they work as the fronts for the main home cinema setup as wellWhat amp is that btw? (forgive me if you told me - I am not good at concentrating)
the speakers definitely sound better than they look too ie im not a fan of the grey front and maybe someday im going to fire up a compressor and make those grey bits black or something like that

Re: Latest Purchases Thread
Oooh that is analogue. And very heavy I believe. We used to have a Marantz amp in the good old days - we now have a Yamaha (yes it is digital)
because of this
I am totally clueless when it comes to this stuff - as long as it sounds great I am happy. He can have what he wants.
Our speakers are JBLs if that means anything. They are small and cute. (typical female comment added)

Well we did buy a lot of new little Halloween decorations in October as well as candy etc. for the party. BUT the last thing purchased was actually last night, dinner, gnocchi napoletana

Re: Latest Purchases Thread
@naughty. That thing is awesome. As you would have seen I bought an old amp, no where near as powerful as the one you have but still sounds awesome. Unfortunately I dont have the original speakers and so far have not found any replacement speakers so have just been using it to drive headphones
@tribs. Which marantz did you have. Was it by any chance something like this:
Analog FTW. I am now hell bent on finding more vintage amps. Even the relatively entry level kenwood ka -70(from 1981'ish) I have wipes the floor with the modern sony component system(far too much bass it seems) in the lounge

Re: Latest Purchases Thread
It was very similar - but then it was years ago. We have another old Yamaha (a previous version) on some shelves here - so the Marantz was really a long time ago.

Some of those old marantz receivers fetch up to 400$ on ebay. I want one but it appears it will be an expensive task getting one over here
First I need speakers. Ones that dont cost the same price as my car

Re: Latest Purchases Thread
Our JBLs are not too expensive I think - about 4k for one of the back ones. A Control 5 it says. We had to replace one as the dogs kept knocking it over and it began to vibrate. No idea what the front ones cost - those are huge.

mmm, 4k sounds a bit more sane. I saw stuff priced at over 20k the other day
