So the new ipad is called the ipad air. 20% thinner and lighter than the ipad 2. The release date is around 1 November so we should expect it next year then?

I was under the impression that this is the 5th incarnation of the regular sized iPad. There was iPad, iPad 2, The New iPad and then there was one released at the same time as the first iPad Mini. Yup, I was right. Why is the iPad Air being compared to the iPad 2 then?

That's because the iPad 2 was thinner than the first, but when they introduced the retina display the need for a bigger battery meant 3&4 were bulkier. They are comparing the Air to the iPad 2 because it was the slimmest.

I would have to call you on that claim. Check the Wiki. iPad 2 was only lighter, but the dimensions remained the same with the 3rd and 4th generations.

iPad 2 was slimmer, according to GSMArena as well. (8.8 vs 9.4 for the iPad 3, and 4)

Please correct me if I am wrong. The ipad vs ipad2 had a duel core and more memory compared to the first and it was both lighter and thinner. The ipad 2 is the voodoo 2 of the tablets.

Imagine your face as your future iPhone password
A newly awarded Apple patent describes a way to use facial features to activate and use your iPhone and other devices.

You may one day be able to unlock your iPhone based just on your good looks.
Awarded to Apple on Tuesday by the US Patent and Trademark, a patent called "Personal computing device control using face detection and recognition" envisions a method to access your iPhone and other devices based on facial detection and recognition. As such, your face would act as a password, allowing only you to answer a phone call and perform other tasks.

The technology would start by scanning your face in order to record all of its unique features, such as texture, color, size, and shape. You could run the same process for any other person whom you want to use your iPhone.

All things iPad (and, more generally, Apple)

Two comments:

1. "Facial recognition is already used by other products." Is this really a technology that warrants it's own patent? You know that Apple is going to start suing the crap out of everyone.

2. "Oh, look, I was in a car accident and my face is all swollen and bloodied. Now I can answer my phone to tell my mom how I'm doing."

More upset than I should be to be honest. Phoned the istore this morning "do you have ipad airs in stock?" , "Yes but we cannot keep them since they are new releases".

So got in my car, drove through to canal walk and played with the demo a bit while waiting for the store assistants to help. About 10 minutes later one finally broke free and helped me. I would take any of the 128gb or 64gb models. Went in to check, got asked by 2 others if I needed assistance but said I was helped, she came back and told me sorry but everything is sold out.

I know its not their mistake and I accept it but man I am pissed and disappointed that I couldn't get one. Really upset and I actually don't know why. It wasn't even a high priority item for me, just an end of the year purchase (even if my PS4 is coming next friday). So yeah, Why do I feel like this? :(

Maybe its because the last two weeks had to be the most horrible weeks in the past 2 years of my life.

@GW Filed 2008. Pretty sure facial recognition has been around longer maybe not for unlocking phones though...
