internet usage monitor

Post by po10cy »

Hope someone can help :)

Basically due to me working in the hospitality industry we have staff that abuse the internet, causing our guests to have inferior internet connection when they stay here. Thats a big problem for us and I need some kind of a free tool to monitor the staff, seeing that we have hundreds of employees spread across multiple hotels, game reserves etc the paid for software is too expensive when you add it all up.

Anyone know of a free tool I can install on each machine which will keep a log and then email that off to me weekly or upload to a website? I dont want to have to remote into each pc and view logs etc as thats just not the right way to do it.

I remember some software called netmonitor that used to be free but what your looking for is paid. Obviously you can check your daily usage from your isp.

I should just mention that for the weekend I was dsl-less so I used 40mb per time that I connected to the net via iphone. It was between the virus update and steam being overly eager to grab an update.

We setup ipfire, logs usage, ip address etc. Doesn't need a big pc to run.

I don't know what hardware you have, but nfsen should do the trick. Anything on a pc can be bypassed with ease, but something that gets its info from the router if another story. Then all your data is centralized too.
