Win XP SP3 Rebooting

Post by doo_much »

As the topic says. Allows user log in and then reboots. Does the same when in safe mode.

Machine's been running OK for +2 years. No internet access and mine is the only memory stick that goes in it, so I doubt if it is a virus.

Probably going to have to do a re-install, but any other ideas will be welcome .

A surprising amount of modern pseudoscience is coming out of the environmental sector. Perhaps it should not be so surprising given that environmentalism is political rather than scientific.

Guessing here - but it could be your memory. Well not yours but the PC's memory ;-) Could also be a corrupt file - a boot disk would help with that. You can make them off the internet if I remember correctly.

immediately following login:
winkey+r
shutdown -a

sounds like a well known infection... if this works it means the sod is running a shutdown script on login

@tribs -nope, don't think so. My Knoppix boot works quite lekker.

@rusty - any other way of doing that? I'm too slow on the draw with the typing thing I think.

nope... got access to some ADHD victim?

the script runs in safe mode as well, so no joy there...

other option would be to log in to another profile?

any restore points you can use?

You can boot from Linux as well. So throw a batch script into the Windows startup folder via Linux.

Indeed. Honestly don't know if we were being taken for a ride or not.
