HL2 (Source) Mod. Need help making one

Post by DarkStar »

Waddup all!
I was thinking about making a Source mod recently and was wondering if any one could help me doing so. As you see I have no knowledge of any mod making. I can't even make an HL1 map!

I've already designed a concept and how every thing works but just need help from someone on doing all of the model making and map making, practaly every thing.

If any one agrees to helping me I like to just say, I don't have any money, & can't pay any one for their services.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Moses_Reloaded remember part of the fun is making the game. So even if you dont know much about modding, try to learn that and then ask for people who will try to help. I dont think anyone will make the game for you, but as I said Ill also try to help(and learn) if its a good concept. (which remind me i must download Source SDK) :)

This is difficult stuff, seriously! Modeling needs 2 be done with SoftImage XSI EXP for HL2 & then piped 2 game using SDK.

Good luck though, & check out www.halflife2.net & links also, think you'll find modcentral or something that should better assist. (haven't been there in a while, lost interest)

I myself played with these stuff on a few occasions & hell man, even with the monthly tutorials PCF UK bundled with their (sadly no more) GameMaker mag this was no easy task.

You should get a bit of know-how by spending countless hours trying & retrying though, so all of the best.

Sorry for thr late post but here's the Basics:

3 teams battling it out. The State, The Avengers, & the Chosen.
The State must capture or kill the Avengers using any means possible. The Chosen must hunt & destroy the Avengers and The Avengers must escape or destroy their opponent.

If you need more Info on the teams and what they can do, just notify me. Thanks

The State are guys who can buy weapons at the beginning of each round, The chosen are big robot-like things(with one of them randomly being chosen to be a super charged robot) & the Avengers are a team of people that have wings and can fly. Also at the beginning of each round they can change one there active abilities(like camoflage or shield)

Ok sounds good. The more info you give the better.
Remenber if you try to do something like that you will need adsl or Idsn. Lots of downloads and uploads.
Btw in which area do you live?

I live in Pietermaritzburg. Problem is I have to use the school's internet connection and its slower than 56K.
so slow I can't even get to the Steam Powered website.
But hopefully I can go to my Dad's house during the holidays and use his ADSL. (Boy does it fly. Downloaded 751 Mb file in 5.3 hours)
If you want I can post more info on the Avengers. They're the most interesting team.

well, i'm doing a halflife2 mod for my core module this year at tuks,
and it doesn't actually seem that hard. got the sdk, got all the tools,
got some tutorials off the net and its looking promising. ours isn't
as original as yours though, we doing a paintball mod.

just keep in mind that the map design is the most important,
its easiest to use the characters from half-life, so don't go
into modelling till later when your game actually works.
also remember that sounds are very very important, they
have a very realistic nature to them in HL2.

one of the coolest things about the source engine is that
you can do material interactions, like friction when you
try move an object. and don't forget the havok physics engine.

your mod sounds cool, hope it turns out well. if it does you can
even sell it to valve.

Now that sounds cool. I'm thinking of maybe adding a 4th team in.

Mages. As you can geuss they can use magic. Their objective is to destroy either The State or The Chosen.

How big is the Source SDK? I might just have to go to an internet Cafe to download it.

& div. I'm interested in that sponsershp thingy that you talked about. But the Question is:
CAN HE DO SOURCE MODS?
Well. Just try. Thanks.
