OnRPG wrote:I didn’t want to make the comparison with Diablo 2/3 that much but unfortunately Path of Exile didn’t leave me to any choice. This game has the distinctly Diablo 2 feel in its animation and playstyle. Path of Exile however adds unique classes and a truly impressive skill tree system to make the genre into its own. If you can copy another game and create something even better than I say more power to you! Path of Exile chose to walk this path and has produced a challenging and addictive role-playing game worthy of OnRPG’s referral.
somewhat behind schedule but a surprisingly engaging product. the approach to active skills, (gem drops that level with you), is both novel and rewarding.

the passive skill tree is one of the most daunting i have ever seen. :D

in short, the thinking RPG fans' RPG. plenty of delicious loot, cramped dungeons, challenging critters and full character customisation.... (the approach to game currency is also quite interesting).

it's an impressive piece of work - not graphically stupendous but when gameplay is this good, who cares?

i) thanks to Mystical_Titan for the tip :thumbleft:
ii) you can get in on the closed beta for as little as R80, which will translate into store points so it's a win-win.
iii) be warned, the beta learning curve is "here you are, there are some monsters, figure it out", so be prepared for some trial and error...

Torchlight 2 is also releasing around the big beast. They are either releasing before or releasing after but at this time they say after to finish polishing the game. So with TL2 being the lower priced alternative what is this game trying to position it self as?

Oh and dont forget out the online only Drakensang thats also following in the footprint of activision-Blizzards abomination.

drakensang was unmitigated rubbish..

whenever i see it in my steam list i get angry and go punch a puppy...

they'd have to go a long way toward 'playable' before i'd consider going there again...

torchlight 2, on the other hand, is looking superb... :D

I was thinking of rusty grabbing it by the neck and yanking it but then my thoughts were no longer on the level.

If anything I am comparing the lag from drakensang to what I might expect from Diablo 3. A rumour is mobs will be done client side while loot calculations and drops will be done server side leaving the game relatively lagless that won't ruin the experience. The vid I saw didn't agree.

15 hours to go for the public beta. :D

the difficulty has been tweaked enough to make the first act quite challenging, requiring the use of a noggin as opposed to simply charging in clicking... :!: (actually, haven't made it passed the prison in HC yet :( ... )

anyone looking to get in on the fun is strongly advised to read the tips for nooblets thread as well as the Exiled Sale Recipe thread, (POE traders have a horadric cube-like function in addition to the traditional turn-my-garbage-into-money one).

0.9.10 was rolled out
  • :- loot allocation timers
:- job board, (public party list)
    :- more uniques
    :- added mob attacks
along with a whole bunch of bug fixes and balance changes - difficulty seems to be scaling correctly now...

patch wiped passive skills so these will need to be re-allocated. i duffed mine up and died 7 times in act one for not having enough defensives

followed rapidly by hotfixes:
0.9.10b
0.9.10c

Public Stress Test Weekend...

the large patch released this week in preparation modified the skill tree and added new end-game content, (the most intriguing of which being the mod-able maps...)

Re: Path of Exile (beta)

the game is actually 100% free... the $10 is basically store credit which remains yours and in return you get a beta key...

i'd say worth it but public beta starts sometime in august, (unless they push it out again), so this weekend will give you a taste...

there will be a flush before the public beta but they don't plan on flushing again... which means the public beta is technically a soft launch...

End Game Dungeons? Skill Trees?

Sounds suspiciously like a certain MMORPG I know...
