ATI... erm, AMD vs nVidia!

Post by hooloovoo »

[Edit by neon_chameleon : Since there seems to be a topic about ATI vs. nVidia! so often, us moderators have decided to create a single thread concerning this issue, namely this topic "ATI vs. nVidia!".

Anybody wanting to ask questions concerning the differences in the two can simply type their question in bold.

eg. ATI X800XT VS nVidia! Geforce 6800 Ultra

Therefore everyone can type their replies or comments here and all pcformatians can read the previous questions to see whether it somehow relates to their question first. ]

Which card should I go for :

1) Gigabyte NX66128DP
Chipset: nVidia GeForce 6600 TurboEdition
Slot: PCI-E 16X
Memory: 128MB 128-bit DDR
Price: R1296

2) Gigabyte RX60X128V
Chipset: ATI Radeon X600XT
Slot: PCI-E 16X
Memory: 128MB 128-bit DDR
Price: R1496

Any opinions of which card I should go for would be grealty appreciated!

Go for the NX66256DP for R 1695,00 and
get 256MB of DDR, its better than the RX60X128V.

Spend a little extra and get the 6600GT, or a 6800nu. The X600 can't really match up to those and the X700 barely holds on, only manage to pass in HL2 if you turn on AA and FSAA.

6600 Turbo or GT if you can splash some extra cash.

The ATiX600XT sucks. Rather get a 9600XT before you buy a X600XT.

Why is ATI falling behind all of a sudden?
Surely the x600 should be posing a competition for the 6600?
Is it because the x600 is based on the 9600?

Actually, according to the benchmarks in Tom's Hardware review, it seems that the x700 is neck and neck with the 6600GT (not SLI) and when they fall into a similar price range, you can't say that the x700 "barely holds on"

PRO...that's just an easier way of saying "personally rated 0".... No really, lets say you would like to upgrade again in a couple of months, but don't want to spend too much, the 6600GT with a SLI option should be an easy picking.....

Okay you're right there...... CPU and MOBO would be a issue, but why not then spend a bit more and get the 6800nu, and oc it, and softmod it. Wel even without oc and softmod that card runs just about anything, for a few bucks more

technically the 6600 and the x700 are supposed to be competitors, the
x600 and x300 is in competition with the 6200, and beat it.

i'd say the reason i'm buying ATI is because they run so much cooler than
anything Nvidia can offer! someone prove me wrong.

i would totally buy a 6800 non-ultra, but the price is VERY restricting,
for some STUPID reason, Nvidia thinks that their HSI bridge is worth R1000.

where ATI has no difference in price between AGP and PCI-express.

I have an X600XT on my one machine and am getting an X700Pro
on my other.
