Need help--Building advice

Post by Cougar94 »

Hi there,

I need serious help,I am try to build a gaming/all round pc and my budget is R18700 can stretch maybe to

R19000,but that would be the absolute limit.

My plan was the following:

CPU:Intel Core i5 3570k (LGA1155)

Motherboard:Gigabyte Z77-UD5H

RAM:8GB Geil Evo Corsa 2133mhz

Graphics Card:2GB MSI N650ti Boost Edition Overclocked

Monitor:BenQ RL2240H 21.5 inch

Storage:1xWestern Digital Caviar Black 2TB 7200 Rpm (WD2002FAEX)+

1xSeagate Barracuda 3TB 7200Rpm(ST3000DM001)

Case:Cooler Master HAF912 Plus

PSU:Cooler Master Silent Pro 800w

CPU Cooler:Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

Optical Drives: 2x LG 24x SATA DVD Writers

OS:Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

My plan was to be able at least be able to play some of the older games like Crysis 2 and

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Las Vegas 2 and some other stuff like some of the Call of Duty games.

I want this build to last me at least for the next 5 years(probably like asking someone to turn lead into gold)

or so as I dont have the funds(I am not in the Bill Gates or Warren Buffet class financially) to upgrade to

newer cpu's and other stuff every 2 years. :(

I thought I had finally "pinned it down" the specs (see above specs) the way I like it but then,I go and read

the April 2013 System Builders Guide R 18 000 to R 28 000 on NAG's website: http://www.nag.co.za/2013/04/23/system- ... to-r28000/

The author of the guide recommends LGA 2011 which seems foreign to me, since other articles I have read from

various seems not to recommend the LGA 2011 socket and that Intel Core i5 3570k (LGA 1155)is all that a person

really needs, even if LGA 1155 is dying out.

I feel like I am going to end up in an asylum(People asking what happened to that guy? and the person

answers:Oh,he tried to build himself a PC and went mad in the process). :?

I mean I feel like I reach the finish of a race, someone says no go back and start again.

Dude seriously you can stop with the spacing thing.

Ok, as you said 2011 is out. So then we will be looking at haswell for your needs, that is socket 1150. R19k is a limit of limits. I don't get why your even putting a 650ti in such a machine. It's like building a fararri with a beatle engine.

So let's go down the line. I will be linking prices from rebeltech.

CPU - Intel i5 4570, 3.2ghz, R2400 link
GPU - MSI geforce 770 4GB, R5500 link
Mobo - MSI Z87-G41 board, R1700 link
Ram - G Skill Ripjaw X 1600mhz 2x4GB, R1000 link
PSU - Cooler Master GX2 750W, R1200 link
Case - Cooler Master HAF 912, R1000
Screen - Samsung 23", R2500 link
OS - Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium, R1400
Optical drive - DVD-RW, R200
Keyboard and mouse - R300+
HDD - 3TB western digital HDD, R1800 link

So in total if your going for the i5 then your gonna be paying R19000.
A few things you can change. You can go for an geforce 670 instead of the 770 which should save you about R1k. The performance difference should be relatively small like 10-15%.
You can go for other types of ram. Just make sure they are 1600mhz as that is the standard for your cpu.
You can look at other motherboard manufacturers. I'm just an MSI fan.

You should stick to Windows 7 as your OS. Others will disagree but windows 8 is really really crap compared to windows 7. This setup should hold you for 3-5 years. After 3 you might have to start dropping game detail. Also with the ps4 and xbone coming out games might start taking advantage of more powerful rigs.
I wanted to add a SSD for OS drive but the exchange rate and pricing on these components makes it a bit of a struggle.

I'm known to be a bit hostile.

I also want to point out that as I said you could go for the geforce 670 to save some money, you should NOT go geforce 760. The alternative you can take is buying maybe something like the geforce 660 that can cost as low as R2.5k. Most games will run at 30fps on max or more. You can save that R3k from the gpu for an gpu replacement 2-3 years down the line.

You can always opt for the cheaper Corsair vengance ram that is also 1600mhz and standard 1.5V. It can be cheaper than the ripjaws but with the exchange rate I doubt you can get it for R600 still.

if your not overclocking your cpu the intel stock cooler should be enough. The HAF is designed for airflow so everything inside should be cooler than normal. You might even consider looking at the CM storm scout or CM storm enforcer cases. If you want the really big spacious cases then look at the HAF 922 and HAF 932.
