I'm running openELEC on mine, and using it as my Music Box (and Airplay receiver). It's hooked up to my amp and speakers and provides a silent, low power, always on way for me to play my music.

I'm considering getting a 64/128GB SD card for the RPi and storing my music on that, instead of having it stream off my NAS.

I wonder if I could use one of these to be a media PC replacement? To have a full blown PC to be always on for streaming media is a bit much in terms of power use also the size it takes up and the heat output, one reason why I dont have one yet...

*edit*

Apparently you can!

So, mine arrived in the post yesterday (ordered six weeks ago, exactly 4 days before the postal strike and BOOM - delays-a-mondo

Anywho, now it's sitting and I'm trying to decide what to do with it? I'm thinking an SNES / Megadrive box. Problems - for some reason, I'm the only person that doesn't own an old micro-USB power adaptor. Nor a spare HDMI cable. Or a wireless kb/mouse. Or an externally powered USB hub.

Right, so let's add this up:
R350 - Raspberry Pi model B;
R60 - Perspex Case;
R200 - Import duty (eina);
R250 - Wireless KB / mouse;
R100 - HDMI cable

Getting close to the R1000 mark. Now if I get it it's own LED screen, that's another R1000.

But let's not think about all that, what to do with the darn thing is the question (typical, get overexcited, order the thing and then not think about what I can actually do with it that none of my existing devices can do)

Well I think, from having looked at some projects in the wild, I want to try an emulator type device with a retro game pad. Also dug out an old HP Laptop with a dead mobo so I'm keen to maybe resurrect it using the Raspberry...

Should be interesting dude :thumbright:

well the interface is so open, so there's so much you can actually do with the Pi :)

Luckily i have a HD flat screen so i'm sorted in that department already :mrgreen:

Somehow I doubt its google :P

Wondering if you can get an old n64 cartridge and put it inside. But not sure what OS it uses and making on then slapping on all your arcade/nes/snes/md emulators and roms will make a true 1000-in-1 cart :mrgreen:

But what about a wireless controller?

LOL, uhm not to sure about the n64 idea :? , lol, do some research, i've stumbled upon some creative projects that people use their Pi for.

Rasberry Pi is linux based SB, so ubuntu would run fine on it, i'm not gonna use it for anything else than a media center, so XBMC is perfect :)

Well then I just need to hunt down the linex version of those emulators. Shouldn't be too hard but obviously it takes time to deliver and I'm not big into linux. I had a week of it back when we had no good windows 64-bit OS.

Has anyone used this as an emulator device? For the old nintendo/snes/megadrive games?
