My PC which is a X2 4200+, 4x 512mb, 7800GT, 3x Sata, 1x PATA, DVDRW, CDRW, 4 USB, 2x fans, Exos WC = 426W

I can drop my power usage quite substantially by removing HDD's and the CDRW and convert the 4x512 to 2x 1024. Takes me into the Lower 300s

That does make more sence since my pc is running fine. I'm sure it would have fliped by now if I needed such a big power supply.
I will do the calculation again when I have more time and see if I get the same score as you.
Thanks

It says I need 514W and I have a 600W, although I have heard that cheap PSUs like Proline actually give less wattage than what the PSU says. That true?

True indeed.

A 450W procase is only capable of the occasional peak spike of 450W if I remember my PSU research correctly.

Okay, but be that as it may, a 600W Proline PSU will still perform adequately for my system, true?

I should probably replace my PSU at some stage with something a little better. Maybe if I get SLI at some stage I'll get a good quality 1000W or something.

You must choose single core CPU not Dual. The CPU is a Dual Cored, but its 1 CPU

aaaah, let me try it now...

thanks jPm...

edit: ok, used the single core processor and my needs dropped by 100w, but i'm still 1What over Watt(yes, it's late) i need - so it looks like i am going to be looking for a new PSU soon...

that is quite a disappoint...

anyways... :?

325W Needed vs 450 W Aopen

Post by BigVan »

Hi,

I'm running a 450W AOpen PSU and a 8800GTS 640M Gainward card however when I fire up a game it crashes. Will a bigger PSU solve the problem. Per this check I only need 325W.

Not sure where the problems lies however does not want to spend another R800 and not solve th eproblem.

Your input will be appreciated.

Are you running the latest drivers? I don't think its your PSU. Your Nvidia driver package will definitly let you know if your card is under powered. I would suggest you start looking into your drivers, directx, hard drives, MoBo and the most obvious culprit Windows. Oh and update you Anti Virus and run it.
