So long, farewell
Hi all, As of this announcement, I have formally relinquished my position as forum sysadmin. Over the past few months, priorities in my life have undergone a radical shift, and unfortunately, this forum is no longer one of them; consequently, I have recently reached the conclusion that it would be b...

It's actually the other way around, as I've yet to bring her a shrubbery. (The problem that I'm having is that even shrubbers are under considerable economic stress at this period of history.)StarPhoenix wrote:Yes but....do you not fear the Wrath of Ron?

Re: The beer thread
Please Enjoy This Picture Of The Beer Queue At The Justin Bieber Concert A friend of mine who was volunteering at the concert last night (surprisingly, I actually do have "friends") informed me that all of the cooldrink was sold out before he got on stage. Plenty of beer available, though.

Re: Acer Aspire 4930G - battery power issues
Your laptop's battery charging system is probably broken, though I'm not sure whether the issue lies with circuitry within the laptop or with the charger itself (though, I suspect the former if the laptop runs on AC power just fine). Either way, you'll need to send it to the manufacturer for repair ...

Re: What's killing the forum
long story short, the mag ceased directing folks to the forum.... This point deserves elaboration, since I do have quite a bit of insight into this. Generally, I've been fighting an uphill battle with the magazine editorial staff regarding this point. I've done all the work required on my side -- r...

User permissions audit: incorrect permission assignments
Hi all, During an audit of forum user permissions, I noticed that some user accounts had forum permissions explicitly defined, which may have inadvertently locked these users out of several user features (i.e. private messaging) or allowed them to bypass certain restrictions (such as the post flood ...

Re: I am not Dead
I remember that lancelot left, but when was he banned? lancelot was grossly insubordinate and then left before I pushed him out. I later locked the door behind him. I cannot say whether these users will be unbanned or not, as I have since reduced my forum responsibility to technical matters only; h...

Re: The Banana Republic thread
I have not followed the story but now I am interested. What happened? Offenders chartered a Jet Airways A330-203 (VT-JWG) and offloaded pax at restricted airfield FAWK without receiving correct clearance to operate there (as a civilian flight, it should have gone into FALA or FAOR). After public ou...

503 errors: April 26 2013
Hi, Some of you may have received 503 errors while browsing the board earlier today (specifically, at around 17:15-17:30 UTC+2). Database optimisation was being performed at around this time -- this is performed periodically to keep the board's performance at acceptable levels. Typically, this takes...

Two months on, I have some feedback for the following posts, mainly because I just happened to stumble across the phpBB developer discussion regarding them: As discussed on GTalk, would a Steam field be possible? Seeing as most people will have it these days. Don't know what everyone else thinks abo...

Re: English Spam Thread and General Rubbish
No, the real excuse was "I forgot my password, and the e-mail address I registered with doesn't exist any more so I can't reset it". I receive several queries of this nature, usually via HQ. In almost all cases, it's impossible for me to verify the identity of the person, so my standard re...

Need to relax?
I discovered this over the weekend. CySNhHVAokQ Background info (i.e. what I blogged about): Marconi Union is a British musical trio specialising in ambient music, and Weightless was produced in conjunction with the British Academy of Sound Therapy (back in October 2011) to be one of the most relaxi...

Re: 'Fly lead' length
If the access controller is unable to handle attenuation in more than 5 meters of Cat 5e or Cat 6 network cable, you need a higher quality access controller. You either need to get off cloud #9, stop smoking it up, or read the OP. I think the latter might be it. :? c'Mon Ron - we install access con...

Gadget Time (the dodgy Chinese/Japanese place next to BT Games in Canal Walk) stocks those Frostmourne replica swords. Or rather, they had one in stock last time I wandered in there.

Out of interest, and for the benefit of the next person who comes here with a problem similar to yours, how did you trace it to the PCIe slot?PC G@MER 01 wrote:OK guys it turns out the pci-e slot was in it's last days so thanksfor all your posts.

Re: Can I import a sword to ZA?
Interesting question. I tried searching around and found folks saying that there was no problem, but the information was dated 2007 and could well no longer apply. Suggestion: pop over to "Dad's Toys" in Canal Walk -- they stock some swords, alongside other really cool stuff (I literally s...
