Re: Worst pc's ever
I worked all through university for the university between classes as general IT slave. There I discovered some of the worst PC's on offer. When new PC's came in, the old ones get passed down to the people lower on the food chain in the depts. Eventually you end up with old PC's that have nowhere to...

Re: Help with screens?
Don't have any advice, but please post a pic when you've got it up and running :) You can never have enough screens - at least when developing...6 screens, drool. Just saw this the other day. Seemed like a good price. Have no experience with the screen or company. http://computersonly.co.za/productd...

1. I (and quite a few people) have ditched Acrobat Reader for Foxit Reader.Tabbed PDF viewing, free version has limited editing (underline, highlight, etc) and it does not bug me to update. It opens quickly. 2. CCleaner (no service, never broke any pc I've used it on in years. Just run and select wh...

Re: Pc Randomly Restarts
I had the almost the exact same problem with my work PC for months and it almost drove me insane. Just before the restart, the fans spin up. I could be in Word or Remote Desktop or Firefox, Netbeans, Visual Studio or not doing anything. I suspected overheating, PSU then RAM. I ran stress tests, RAM ...

Re: HDMI looks Bad
I've got a 2494HS and I have the same problem. DVI and VGA works 100%, HDMI just never looks good. No amount of tweaking can get it fixed. I got my dad this same screen and it too has the same "problem". He's only got a VGA laptop so it's not really a problem and it looks surprisingly good...

If you send me the board I can put a few 9mm rounds through it and send it back? Do some trouble-shooting?
About testing everything: since he's going through all the trouble anyway, nothing to loose. Why not?

Re: mates pc = frustration
You need to test components one by one, even the keyboard and mouse. Would be best to get the board out and run it outside the case. Maybe something is shorting on the back of MB? Remove everything. Put in RAM, CPU, GFX and your keyboard. Test. Add HDD. Test. Etc. Maybe the KB is screwed? Reset butt...

The PC appears off - no fans, spinning. If I hit the power button, I'm at the login screen instantly. I can go like th...

Re: Browser Review: IE, FireFox and Opera who's better?
Thankfully there is a 2003 interface ribbon for 2007(10?) that makes office usable once more. The menu system for 2007/10 is far superior to what it was in 2003. +1 Some people are just against progress, damn counter revolutionaries. Probably still use XP as well... :P Not quite...I run Server 2008...

Re: Browser Review: IE, FireFox and Opera who's better?
If XP works, what's the problem (aside from the fact that the license are drying up)? It's arguably the best MS desktop OS to date. On a side note, I'm relieved to see MS did not bring that ribbon crap into Visual Studio :D Thankfully there is a 2003 interface ribbon for 2007(10?) that makes office ...

Re: Accessing an Ethernet device over Internet
I would not just forward ports to the PLC. This is the Internet! Giving the whole world access to an industrial controller running machines, conveyors etc is insane. I would not even run the remote desktop like that. IMO you need some type of VPN setup. The little experience I have with OpenVPN so f...

+1 on the "cheap" NAS. We've got a 4TB (3TB RAID 5) Western digital one on the network to store ISO's, monthly backups, articles etc and it's just not fast enough for more than a few users.
I think you need to have a talk to the boss, spend some money and get a proper server setup going.

You run operating system(s) on another operating system (host) using an application. The client OS's share the resources of the host OS, but they are for the most part completely shielded from one another. You can run Linux within Windows, or Windows within Linux, Windows within Windows, Linux withi...

Hehe, yeah. It's a constant battle between spending on the PC and keeping my shooting habit going. I've taken to reloading my ammo to save cash. I bought the Glock in 2007 for R7000. They go for about R8500-R9000 now (not bad). Before that I had a Taurus for a few years, but "upgraded" to ...

Re: ADSL modem\router\WIFI with good DHCP server
a Billion broadband router should do the trick. Looks like it (really hope so). I have read a few user manuals. I have emailed them about: 1. How many MAC\IP combos the device can store and; 2. Can it give out permanent IP's for wired devices as well (seems implied to me - but you never know) All o...
