No, I would rather throw in a E8600 for now. But might stop past shrink anyway.

Cost isnt too bad at the mo, Core i7 920 is a little over 4k. Pricing on mobo's I am not sure of yet and the Tri Channel 1333 Ram is around 3k.

I am almost certain there will be O/C, Ram issues on the 1st boards.

Well if I go for the 4870X2 I would change to Asus Rampage board. ATI drivers are my only worry.

Which cards do you guys think I should buy?

1) 4870X2
2) GTX 280 (SLI in the future)
3) Wait for 55nm GTX 290 (SLI in the future)

You are confusing the diff between HD Ready and Full HD. Both are HDTV's. HD Ready is like you said 720p/1080i or 1366x768 and FullHD is 1080p or 1920xsomething or other.
