I would say that is bad PR by EA support. If it's a potential bug in the game, than they should act accordingly, not blow it off as a hardware glitch.

I've also experienced some intermittent sound issues with Kane's Wrath (similar to what you described). I doubt it's sound card or driver problems (although, I could be wrong).
