Are those splitter cables really that expensive? I wouldn't have thought so.

Re: Puff the magic smoke...

They generally do have fuses, they just put them inside the casing for sh%#s and giggles.

Without googling to in depth, I am almost certain that your Aopen would have a fuse.

Arrgh, so I buy the game with no LAN, while the pirates giggle with glee at their cracked LAN supporting version.

Re: Puff the magic smoke...

Oops, heatsink was most likely grounded, so I'm going with you probably shorted your PSU, I'd unplug the PSU from the Mboard and everything else and try turning it on like that.
Maybe you got lucky and it just had a minor heart attack.

Re: Which battery to get?

I'm not sure which radios you are using, but make sure of those DC specs. Some of the radios I've used have 3 voltages; AC, DC and DC Battery. Usually the battery DC is 12V and if mains is DC it'll be at 24V 'cause generally you want at least 17V to charge the batteries. But if the ones you're worki...

R1000 for a game? That's just silly. Hope the little guy wins this saga. Pity he went to Hello Peter, there's a business model I don't support.

Re: My PSU "Flash - banged" me

As far as I can tell that yellow thing is the transformer, either way, a loose connection could cause create all kinds of flashes. If a dead short was created within the PSU the rest of your PC may well have survived. This would also account for the repeated fault, as now everytime you turn the thin...

Re: AMD vs. Intel

SykomantiS is right, currently there are only AM2+ PhenomsII's available which don't support DDR3, you need to wait for AM3 for that.

This explains it nicely.

hmm, bit slow on the posting. Oh well

Re: Starting a car with a 500W PSU

I reckon it'll work, as long as the PSU can push the required amps
Ark wrote:But.. um... wouldn't the alternator kick power back to the PSU and make it go bang?
Even cheap PSU's should have inductive load protection.

Still a stupid idea.

Why spend R125 on that little thing, when all you need to do is short these two pins on the psu not plugged into the motherboard.

Re: Choosing a mouse pad...

I would have lost or destroyed it in some unglorified way long before 2 years has elapsed. But at around R40 a mouse, break and replace works for me.

But I get your point if you buy an expensive mouse, might as well get it a "red carpet" to roll on.

Re: Choosing a mouse pad...

You would think these expensive mice would come packaged with their own expensive mouse pads, when you're paying that much for some kit I'd like it to work straight off the bat.

That said; wooden desk, arm chair, paper, leg, all works for me.

Re: Which gobbles more electricity, laptop or desktop?

Laptop's are far more efficient. If you just use a smidgen of logic, the transformer of the laptop I'm working on right now has a power output of 65W as appose to my desktop which has a 600W output. Your desktop power supply can have multiple 12V rails pushing 16A. Laptops generally use one 20V supp...

Re: EA dissapointed at sales = cut back 2009

Considering what the world economy looks like at the moment, I don't think it's too far off speculating that it has had some impact in the sales of games. I think it's somewhat idealistic pointing the finger solely at DRM in the hopes EA will change its policies.

Can you right click the drive in my computer and click copy?

This worked on a flash drive of mine some time ago, can't remember what was wrong with it, but I just pasted the contents on the desktop and formatted the little bugger.
