Re: I want to buy new hardware but dont know what to choose

This is a late reply since I am not too active. GDI already asked important questions so I will just post 2 specs. 1 is recommended as a minimum and the other is something that looks to be more along your budget. i5 4460 8gb ram z97 board geforce 750ti 600w psu harddrive, dvd drive, mouse and keyboa...

Re: New Mobo advice

It's not a necessity but for 2 months games won't run at their full potential. It's not a system breaking thing but games might run uncomfortable. I honestly cannot remember the last time I had less than 8GB in my system. I just think world of warcraft or starcraft 2 might have had a problem with it.

Re: New Mobo advice

Mike you might want to get another 4GB ram. I sense a lot of disc swapping if you only have 4GB.

Re: New Mobo advice

SB, why do you prefer Nvidia? Nvidia drivers are more stable than AMDs and I've grown use to physx in the games that has them. Nvidia drivers are also more compatible. @GDI TressFX isn't AMD exclusive. The tech is as ancient as tesselation back when it was called trueform. This generation nvidia ha...

Re: New Mobo advice

AMD gpus has better numbers and a lower pricing. But I am an nvidia fan. The geforce 8 series is releasing in september so we should see it mid/end sep or start of oct. I have the 780ti on my main rig and the 750ti on my "low end" rig. The tech that went into the 750ti is amazing if you co...

Re: Console choice

If he is use to a PC then maybe get him a PC even if its a cheap one. Just something that he can play games on even if its 30fps at medium detail or so. As for consoles your question would be Wii U or PS4. PS4 lacks a lot of the media features the PS3 had. You can watch bluray on PS4 but not 3D Blur...

Re: Upgrading help

Reason behind going with more ram is you disable pagefile when you have an ssd. Watch dogs is the first game to hit over 8gb ram used that I know of.

Re: Upgrading help

See if you cant get Corsairs 2x8gb even if they are 1600mhz then. I don't know what transcend has other than AxeRam and then that is expensive.

Re: Upgrading help

I might be too late to the party but what are you playing for your ram kits? The higher clock speeds does drop off signifigantly after 1600mhz, 1866mhz is slightly faster, 2133mhz barely, and from there on its really hard to tell. Your best bet is to get 2x 8gb modules even if they run at 1600mhz. W...

Say what you will. Still prefer MSI to other brands. Although I only go so far as motherboard and graphics card. Think Asus is the best when it comes to a lot of other stuff.

Re: The 22" (and larger) LCD Thread

Can't help you there. 23" has 1920x1080 and 20" is 1600x900 for the most part. Dunno if 22" is just 1680x1050.
Gaming screens are around 24" for 120-144hz and your looking at 6k.

Re: Upgrading help

CPU an i5 will do the trick. Just look at what you want to spend but I won't go too high since and i5 is an i5 regardless. The next step might be to go i7 but then we looking at R3.5k to R4k. I am sure you can get an i5 around R2k-2.5k. Mobo I would say budget for R1.5k-2k and see if you cant get a ...

Re: PC Format’s shutting its South African doors...

Indeed the mag will be missed but unless your Coke a Cola, if you dont change then your doomed. The Windows XP tweak issue comes to mind as the one I use to consult the most to get my XP running the way I wanted it to. The other take away would be that PCF scored Deus Ex 96 or 98 way way back in 200...

Re: Creating a HTML page with calculations and saves?

Not sure what sharepoint is. At current the setup is a work network with file sharing on one of the PCs as a central file host/server. Basic network stuff, no real access control. The problem I am sitting with is the cells being changed meaning someone can put in something into a cell with a formula...

Re: Creating a HTML page with calculations and saves?

Not to sound stingy but I would have to use money to create the system then? It's not something that I can cook up with a simple text file or excel running in the background? My programming skills are non existent at this point. Will I need to train in VS to be able to do what I want to do? Don't su...

Creating a HTML page with calculations and saves?

I'm currently using a excel spread sheet for daily capturing. The problem is either excel or the staff are tampering with my formula cells. I don't want to lock each cell for editing and there is a lot. What I want to do is the following: - Set up a webpage that allows the person responsible for the...

Office on ipad needs a 365 subscription so your going to pay $75 or $99 a year. I think the one is home rated and the other one is business rated.
