Re: Critical thought

If you want to bother me with talk about how XY or Z is so fantastic I will bother you back by suggesting that your claims are exaggerated. The Aussies are actually pretty good about not pushing personal agenda's at work - it helps that they are one of the least religious people in the world, and g...

Re: A thread not for the easily offended

Naaah I guess not. But we are not talking chemicals here. We are talking about splitting blood cells so that they carry more oxygen to the organs and cells. I suppose this could be witnessed under a microscope. Not checked to see if they have done it. I should post a photo of the bracelet so that y...

Re: A thread not for the easily offended

I would spend more time wondering whether it was the real or the fake - than paying attention to the effect. Whatever effect I have would no longer be admissible as proof. If the effect is so subtle that merely thinking about it cancels it out, then I'm afraid it is worthless. Does anesthetic work ...

Re: A thread not for the easily offended

Nope - I know about the placebo trials - I just don't see how you can conclusively prove that the effect is not psychological. If you give me 10 pills and I believe that they are the real ones - they will probably work. And if the real ones work too - then we know that the effect is psychological. ...

Re: A thread not for the easily offended

Well yes - it does work. I was skeptical to begin with - and am now convinced it does work. Still not convinced some of the effect is not psychological. All the best rugby players use them and they too say it works. Tell me - who is going to be part of your trial? I am not taking mine off. The thou...

Re: A thread not for the easily offended

Tribble, it seems you have never heard of a placebo controlled trial. We can absolutely test whether something works, or whether it is just a psychological effect by using a placebo controlled test. For example, someone could construct an identical bracelet to the one you have, except construct it i...

Re: A thread not for the easily offended

I would not deny that the magnetic bracelet made you feel better. If it made you feel better, then it made you feel better. Only you can be the judge of that. But are you at least willing to acknowledge that it may be psychological?

Re: A thread not for the easily offended

Perhaps these things you believe to be so airy fairy will one day be backed up by scientific fact. You need to remember that Science plays two roles when dealing with airy fairy ****. First, Science is used to test whether a certain claim is true or not. Second, it is used to develop a theoretical ...

Unless he is saying they are equivalently harmful or equivalently addictive, I don't see what the big fuss is? All he's saying is that they both make you happy, which seems like a perfectly reasonable comment to me.

Re: Piracy article in June issue

If I borrow a friend's original, and play that instead of buying the original, that has the exact same economic impact on the company as me pirating a copy. Is that as morally repugnant? What if, instead of borrowing a friend's original, I just play the game on his PC whenever I'm at his house. Is t...

You're making the assumption that everyone who receives a pirated copy of a game would have bought the original, were they not able to pirate. This assumption is absurd.

It's the right approach. If you don't want to see it, then don't look at it.
