I'll try to answer your questions quickly :- 1) I've looked at Nvidias website and found Linux drivers but I don't know which ones to get, they only have up to Mandrake 9.0 drivers there and they have for 32-bit and AMD 64-bit, Now I have a 64-bit CPU but the ver. of Mandrake I have is only 32-bit a...

I'm so sorry for your loss. My Mom also had a great loss yesterday - My Step Father passed away after some years of health problems. I'm off to the UK tommorrow to visit my Mom to help her through her difficult time. I find it hard to understand these things, there's not much you can say about them ...

What do I love about Linux ?

90% of us are always newbies ! - the other 9% lie and the last 1% are buddies with Linus Torvalds. :)

Did you come right with your X windows (GUI) and Mandrake ? It can be a REAL bear to get it working when it won't, but 9 times out of 10, it's a simple thing - problem is, it can take you 4 hours to find out what that thing is ! Doing a re-install with Linux, while it should be a last resort, is oft...

I think your doing it the right way.
When you login, always login as your username and when you need to configure something, go into su mode.
So long as you don't login as root from boot or do basic tasks that don't need root access, you'll be fine.

I love it as a server platform - I host all my clients on Linux and find it so easy to use compared with what microsoft have to offer. On the desktop, hmm, it's good for surfing, movies, music etc. I've been following the goings on at www.osnews.com with people indicating whether Linux is ready for ...

hehe :) I know why, but a bigger story like this demands more of a headline of course. I mean, if the release date of HL2 is announced, it's pretty pointless having it in the big thread, but for all the little stuff, it's a darn good idea. This Second article from HardOCP is what a lot of people hav...

The movie is an award winning 3D animated movie called Blue.

The issue is leaning toward 3D with plenty of apps and info, which is why I got it.

Paged through it in the CNA in Hyde Park today. I'd bought the UK June edition some weeks back and was pleasantly suprised at the new ratio ! It looks like a 50/50 level is being reached content wise - I hadn't purchased the UK version for a long time up until this point. Still, there's a lot of con...

To use GeexBox, you need to know a bit about your 'puters BIOS first. You have to set it to boot from your CDROM. It's easy enough to do. When your PC boots, just look at the screen that tells you how to get into BIOS - it's either F2 or DEL Then just look thru there to get your PC to boot from your...

Linux handles CD's in a different way to Windows - what is probably happening is a "mount" problem. In Linux, the terminal way of reading the contents of a CD after insertion is :- mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom That mounts a device called cdrom into the directory /mnt/cdrom - you can mount i...
