Re: Hello, need help on a pc please.

Idling at 40° C for an A10-5800K at stock is normal and especially good for the kind of weather Durban and the surrounding areas normally has. You can get this down by turning off the onboard GPU in the BIOS. I don't where it is in MSI's EUFI setup, but it is there. You can also undervolt the chip, ...

Re: ATI... erm, AMD vs nVidia!

I'm still surprised at how good the HD7970 looks in comparison. Those who bought it over a year ago have had GTX770-class performance for ages. The GHz Edition just sealed that value in even more. No wonder why they were so comfortable not bringing a product refresh sooner - they didn't need it. Of ...

Re: Browser Wars 2013

What is the best browser for South African conditions? Now let me qualify.... I am assuming here that hardware is not the issue, nor network reliability. What I'm on about is the fact that very, very few people can afford a truly high-speed connection. So lets assume everything else is in order and...

Re: Multiple Hard Drives

When I was working in retail two years ago I sold two of the enclosures linked below to different customers, one for external backups and one for hosting all their media. It was only for two drives and used USB 2.0, but it worked. The newer version uses USB 3.0 and space for four drives. Only costs ...

Re: Friend buying first gpu

I'd go for the HD6670 1GB because at those resolutions you can still add some AA and higher quality settings. 512MB isn't enough for many games even at low settings these days.

What network mode are you working on? Home, Work or Public? Also, when you go into the properties page for the Ethernet controller, what's ticked on the "Sharing" tab? Are you running a HomeGroup?

Re: Advice on SSD's

The system reserve is there to hold some boot files and tools to enable you to repair your OS using a disk image should it ever crash. I've found that its not really necessary if you're the type to troubleshoot and take care of the OS and updates yourself, but for some people it's been incredibly us...

I wa also hoping for the view of the box. But we have an ok spec sheet although I didn't see the speed of the cpu. Infact we didnt see any clock speeds. Re: Advice on SSD's

For the BIOS, change the SSD to AHCI mode instead of SATA or IDE. Also, when installing Windows, follow this guide: Sean's SSD Windows 7 Install Guide A lot of it doesn't have to be done, but there's quite a bit of good advice there. In the beginning he talks about the System Reserve partition - I'd...

It can't, actually. By default the right-click context menu that includes the scan option isn't there, you have to add it in manually.

I'm using integrated MSE inside Windows 8 and I had it on Windows 7 and it was smooth sailing. The only thing I wish it included was the option to right-click and scan individual files.

I'm still on Windows 8 and its functioning perfectly well for me. I installed a second license on another PC in the house and it's being used now as a print and media server as well as a regular desktop and its pretty slick. No hiccups so far with mine or the other machine so far. I do get occasiona...

Re: Advice on SSD's

The Intel is a good choice and their Sandforce firmware is pretty stable. They also have the advantage of being compatible with the Intel SSD Toolbox which is a nifty piece of kit. R10/GB is a good price ratio as well, although I've seen that some retailers are inflating their prices on the 330 seri...

Not sure if trolling... Well look at it this way: Victoria Beckham was Creative Director at Land Rover and all that came out of it was a regular Evoque that turned into... a blinged-up gangsta's Evoque. Not much was really changed, probably because she could have been a terrible influence on the fi...

I watched the launch and commented on it for NAG Online. I must admit, I'm very impressed with the way the whole thing is set out. Reminds me so much of how Meego works and what Nokia had planned for that platform.

Re: gtx 650 vs hd 7750

My vote is the HD7770, its the faster card in that price range. Otherwise, there's also the excellent GTX650 Ti . Both will play BF3 single-player on high, dropping to medium for the multi-player to keep framerates high enough to remain competitive. So long as you have a quad-core chip, he should be...

Re: HD6670 Help Please.. Im loosing my mind!!

This shouldn't be a power issue because the HD6670 doesn't use that much power (75W power draw from the PCI-Express slot). Kenny, start installing the AMD graphics drivers again but this time extract it to a different folder, perhaps on your desktop. Use computer management to install the drivers ma...

Low-latency DDR2 RAM only ever made a difference in benchmarks - you couldn't really feel any difference in games, unless it hit the memory controllers quite hard.
