Kosmosdal - The area..
Hey guys Never used the general discussion, always just posted weird work-logs. Now I need help. We're moving to Gauteng, and the offices are in Midrand. Is Kosmosdal a decent area to live in Centurion? It's close to some of those hellish onramps on to the N1, but apart from that? The house we want ...

When you can't stop fiddling! (actually just fan tests here)
Every time I come home from the pc store I fear my wife is going to divorce me, or worse. To avert any such danger, I took her and the kid for all you can eat sushi on Monday night. One night set aside for talking about this and that, looking deep in to her eyes, and whispering about the early days ...

Re: i7 Build Need Help.
I can vouch for the Corsair TX series...I have the TX850, and love it. Unless you want a show-off-the-insides, the extra price for the modular PSU's aren't worth it. For cooling, the H80 would be a good buy, or even a H70. I use a H70 on a i7-950 running 4Ghz 24/7 and under full load hits 72'c. Norm...

Re: CPU Coolers
I own a H70 and love it BUT I changed the two fans to two after market 70cfm fans. The stock fans whined like a turbojet. Apparently the H80 is slightly better by one or two degrees, and I suspect the H100 would be a bigger improvement though its a thin 240mm radiator, vs the thick 120mm radiator on...

Lapping is hard work...
So, I finally built my new home storage server: All this (and more) went in to one case. The blue modded case I did a few months ago could not accommodate all the drives, so I had to change it (but the case has a new loving home). http://www.i-eve.co.za/wp-content/uploads/lap5.jpg With no real plans...

Re: Rate this cheap setup (please?)
Prophecy lists the 955 Black Edition at just over R1200, cheapest I've seen so far, BUT no stock. http://www.prophecy.co.za/phenom-quadcore-32ghz-black-edition-boxed-processor-p-37208.html The 646 I spoke about is a proper 4 core cpu, running at 3.1Ghz (but locked multiplier). http://www.prophecy.co...

Re: Rate this cheap setup (please?)
Yup, I agree with you StarBound.. That said, if I can find a Black Edition X4 955, I can overclock it, which will then come to the same price as the i3...no-one has stock though it seems...it's a proper 4 core CPU, vs i3 2 core...

Re: Rate this cheap setup (please?)
I'm kind of keen to dip in to the AMD bin for a change, seeing as this won't be my main rig, although the i3 does pose a interesting dilemma (but gets a tad more expensive). Future proofing? I bought a socket 1366 board for my main rig...*snigger*.. Biggest problem is that I can't find a flippen Bla...

Ok, see my sig for my main rig, but I need a secondary rig for "stuff".. Minimal budget... So far, the old Take 2 website (now Takealot) seems the best pricing.. Budget deluxe! Motherboard - Asus AM3 socket, has decent features: http://www.takealot.com/electronics/asus-m4a78lt-m-socket-am3...

Ok, first thing, I'm typing this from memory, I might make mistakes in my explanation! Now, it's not brute-forcing the password in the traditional way. Bruteforcing means you're running a complicated amount of possibilities against whatever application and hoping you strike gold. I'm more intereste...

Re: Radeon's explained please?
I'd say load your grafix-needing app(s) up onto your existing rig(s) and test performance to get a gauge on how those do - based on that you might not need to get the big cards. The only problem I might have with this (and hence the theorycrafting) is that if my thesis proposal gets approved, and i...

Ok, maybe a bit more explanation needed. The GTX 460's I have are the decent one's...1gb EVGA EE Superclocked babies. They rock for gaming, but for a MD5 bruteforcing application called 'oclhashcat' they're not that great. With two (they don't need SLI) you get about 2009m/s (yes thats a lot of math...

Ok, so I'm a Nvidia fanboy with a older 8800GT in one machine, and 2 x 460's in SLI in my current rig. For another (not gaming application) I might need to purchase two 5770's or 5750's.. I see a fairly small price difference, so can someone give me the quick and nasty on if the 5770 is worth the ex...

Just run your setup through one of those power calculators. When I was doing the specs for my pc, running 2 x EVGA 460's I had to get somewhere around a 700w'ish PSU. Bought a 850W just to be safe.

Re: What game are you currently playing?
The Homefront cover picture pretty much covers my thoughts on the game, ie. anyone that bought it needs to be taken in to the back yard, blindfolded and shot. Ok, stuff I liked about the game. The weapons. Almost from the start you have access to pretty decent hardware and while a lot of the weapons...
