This morning I booted up my Centrino Duo Core 1.8GHhz Laptop and opened Core Temp as soon as I could and it showed a CPU temp of 69 degrees. That cannot be right! How can the cpu go from ambient temp of about 15 degrees to 69 degrees in 60 seconds and then stay there? My laptop definitely does not r...

3.2 Ghz @ 1.28V - perhaps I have pushed my volts to high by going to 1.3 straight from the stock 1.26? Perhaps I shoud try running @ 1.28 also and see what happens.....

This should also reduce temps I assume???

"Invest in other cooling solutions other than stock....." wizardofid, what cooling solution are you using with your 3,2Ghz o/clock, and at what CPU voltage? What temps do you get with Core Temp? The Core Temp readings seem high if they are indeed correct, something to worry about if this i...

MOnitoring CPU temps - software is a crock!

I have downloaded SpeedFan and Core Temp and run these side by side on my system, both simultaneously and alone to monitor CPU temp on my o/clocked machine. On average: SpeedFan reports the 4 cores at idle as 32,32,37,37 Core Temp reports the 4 cores at idle as 47,47,54,54 and under load: SpeedFan -...

If I OC my CPU to 3.0 GHz I also get a score of 12133. But what is interesting enough, at idle my temp. for the CPU is 42*C but @ 3.0GHz OC my temp only rises to 45 - 46*C This means you should o/clock to 3Ghz 24/7 :D These CPU's seem very capable of being pushed without getting hot. Did you up the...

Last nite I started up my new rig, got 11583 on 3DMark06 without toutching any settings...not too bad I think... Thats funny. My rig gets 12183. I see that our rig's are more or less the same. Can you tell me @ what temp. your system and CPU runs during Idle ? My temp. is way up and it doesn't look...

PCI 12V power conector

Just wondering after studying the mobo manual for the first time in a while. There is a 4 pin connector plug (the one typical for powering hard drives) on the mobo which I have not pluged a power lead from the PSU into. In the manula it says this provides extra power to the PCIE Express 16X slot and...

PsyCLown, What FSB are you running? When I changed a 800Mhz FSB CPU E6400 for a Q6600 1066FSB CPU without changing anything else, also noticed Vista increased the RAM score quite a few points - from 5.0 to 5.7 I think. That RAM in the link looks good, price is good, but where did you buy it - online...

Eish no! A new Mobo would generally mean re-installing Vista (probably a full format) and install all software, drivers again. 8O

I'll stick to my current set up for now but i know a new mobo will be one of the logical next upgrades for me.....

I have 4 x 512 MB sticks of Corsair XMS2 memory = 2GB. I only have 4 slots and to upgrade to 4GB memory means I have to toss all 4 sticks and replace with 4 x 1GB sticks. I tried this by buying OCZ "premium" sticks from Matrix. Plugged them into my machine and my Vista performance index fo...

Is overclocking able to equal a fast stock chip?

Just wondering here - Current PCF mag talks about a new 3.2Ghz CPU from Intel at a cool R10,000. If one was to o/clock a R2,500 Q6600 to 3.2 Ghz (many people of this forum achieve this easily) would it's real performance be equal to the R10,000 chip? Perhaps this is a bad example as I know the new C...

Perhaps slightly parallel to this: How would you rate the G80 GTX 768Mb card in the mix? Is it still better than the new G92 GT and GTS cards? Assuming money was no option at all (and you could only buy one - no SLI) - which gfx card would you take assuming you had to buy the card today and live wit...

Think it is Microsoft Flight Sim X. It is really abusive towards the CPU and then I added a pay ware aircraft that is equally CPU intensive and i think the combination is just too much :( Anyways I seem to be 100% stable (touch wood!) at 2.8ghz with the CPU voltage upped to 1.3. Not saying this too ...

Perhaps my Q6600 was one from the bottom of the barrel as I could not get it to run stable at 2.5ghz without upping voltage. I t woulod run stable right up to 2.8Ghz until I ran MS Flight Sim X with all sliders at full detail. It wouold then fall over (reboot) after anything from 5 mins to 30 mins. ...

OK, downloaded Speedfan. It lists the CPU core temps x 4 and also 3 other temps, one of which is -2 (minus 2). I guess that sensor is non exisitant on my Mobo but how do i know what the remaining two temps are refering too - Northbridge and something else? temps are about 47/39 for these two strange...

OK, interesting...

So what you are saying is that by upping the FSB only, one does not generate extra heat on the NB and CPU, even though they are now running at a higher speed on standard voltage.

I understood this differently. :?

Yeah, I know it's overkill.....Depends on the cost I guess. If I can get a 750Watter for a few bucks more than a 550W, then it makes sense. I'm not rushing into that though
